Farm to Fork is a strategy promoted by the European Union which aims to respond to the challenges of finding sustainable food systems and understands that there is a close relationship between healthy people, healthy societies and a healthy planet.
At Tradecorp, in line with their steadfast commitment to sustainability and the health of people and the planet, they are doing their utmost to make a positive contribution to attaining the objectives of this ambitious initiative. And they do so around five principles set out by the European Union (A healthier and more sustainable EU food system is a cornerstone of the European Green Deal) through which they develop policies and projects that enable us to do their bit for a better world.
Ensuring healthy, affordable and sustainable food for Europeans
Since its inception, Tradecorp’s mission has been to “feed the planet through safe, healthy solutions to create well-balanced, sustainable agriculture.” In order to deliver on their mission, they conduct research into innovative products that enable us to promote and be part of a more productive, environmentally friendly and sustainable way of farming.
Combating climate change
They are all suffering the consequences of climate change. Tradecorp has worked for many years to combat this phenomenon through its long-standing commitment to implementing policies and projects that cut the CO2 their factories and offices emit into the atmosphere.
They are ISO 14001 certified, which means that their production plants, located in Sanchidrian and Albacete (Spain), prevent and minimise their environmental impact through the reduction of emissions and waste, and the efficient use of natural resources and energy.
In addition, they carry out annual energy audits to improve their environmental policies. For example, they have installed inverters in their drying tower fans that will save 16 MWh of energy per year; the boiler has been insulated so that it does not lose heat and practically all the facilities use LED lighting technology.
Protecting the environment and preserving biodiversity
They are concerned about protecting the environment and using natural resources wisely. As part of their commitment, they are members of GLOBALG.A.P., a platform for benchmarking best practice in the global agricultural industry.
All of their active agents are registered and are fully compliant with the REACH regulation. They are also a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact. This means that their activities and strategies are aligned with ten principles derived from UN declarations on the environment, as well as human rights, labour and anti-corruption.
Fair economic returns in the food chain
All their products are designed to improve crop yields without harming the environment. This means being able to produce more with less. Their premium quality products, which are formulated for all types of crops and adapted to local agronomic conditions, are very effective, enabling farmers to grow profitable crops and harvests.
Promoting organic farming
Organic farming plays a significant role in their company. In 2018, sales of this type of products accounted for 49% of the company’s total turnover.
Currently, a large number of their products are approved for use in organic agriculture, according to European standards, National Organic Program (NOP) standards or both. Thus, they can cater for the needs of European farmers and help them to comply with and mainstream the objectives of the European Commission, which aims for at least 25% of all agricultural land to be under organic farming by 2030 (A Farm to Fork Strategy for a fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly food system).
