New herbicide formulated in Argentina based on flumioxazin 48%

Summit Agro officially launched its new herbicide, Gemmit Top, a PPO inhibitor of the enzyme protoporphyrinogen oxidase, in Argentina.

The product is formulated as a concentrated suspension (SC) based on 48% Flumioxazine, and promises “an excellent and broad spectrum of broadleaf weed control as well as grass suppression.”

Although Gemmit Top formulation is based on flumioxazin, it is produced through micronization technology. According to the manufacturer, this makes its particles smaller with a larger specific contact surface. According to Summit Agro, the particles disperse better in the broth, with greater stability in the mixture due to less flumioxazin precipitate, and better mixing and homogeneity in the tank.

Giuliana Nardi, head of herbicide products at Summit Agro Argentina, explained that micronization technology increases the probability that a weed will encounter the active ingredient as the distribution of particles is more homogeneous, and the specific contact surface increases. In addition to climatic conditions and equipment regulation, the quality of the products used is a key factor during its application.

“GemmitTOP's low water solubility ensures the rain does not wash off the product and it remains active down to the first centimeter of the soil. This feature sets it apart from other pre-emergencies, even in the same mode of action,” the manufacturer highlighted.

According to Summit Agro, the new herbicide achieves “maximum expression” of flumioxazin, and is “the result of research and development, and creativity while innovating. Gemmit Top is a revolutionary and innovative product, and research and development could be seen clearly.”
