Iowa corn planting slowed by weather
Date:04-20-2011
Cool wet weather has slowed fieldwork for much of Iowa. Just two percent of the state’s corn has been planted compared with sixteen percent last year and the average of six percent.
Oat seeding is sixty-four-percent complete, behind last year but ahead of the five year average.
Top soil and subsoil moistures are rated mostly adequate to surplus.
Cool temperatures and cloudy skies have slowed pasture growth. Also, recent cold wet weather has not been beneficial for newborn calves.
