Imidacloprid is an insecticide used against pests affecting cotton, sugar cane and citrus crops. The product is used mainly during the wettest period, with its highest demand being at the start of the year.
Therefore, it is important for rural producers to plan and monitor trends and market movements, to guarantee the lowest price of the insecticide and product delivery.
The volume imported in the first half of 2020 was 46% lower than in the same period of 2019, which may have been caused by market uncertainties caused by the pandemic, since the demand for pesticides worldwide is low.
This low demand also negatively affected the international price of the insecticide, which fell 18% in the Chinese market since the start of 2020. In Brazil, the average price of the insecticide in the concentration, 700g/kg, was 14% lower in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, from R$128.5/kg to R$110.6/kg (US$24/kg to US$20/kg).
