Monsoy launched, in Brazil, its first varieties of soy with Intact Technology 2 Xtend (i2x), a third-generation biotechnology. "These new transgenic seeds have high resistance against caterpillars and will enable soybean growers to effectively control weeds when combined with good agricultural practices, which is fundamental to intelligent management," said Antonio Everaldo (Commercial Leader of Monsoy).
For the next harvest, Bayer will launch three varieties with the Intacta 2 Xtend biotechnology and two other specific varieties with Refuge Xtend, which are also tolerant to the herbicide, dicamba, for the management of weeds. "The new varieties with Refuge can also offer high productivity and help in the maintenance of Bt technology. In addition to dicamba, this technology prevents tolerance to glyphosate," Everaldo added.
The variety intended for the largest producer state of the commodity in Brazil, Mato Grosso, is called, “M 8220 i2x,” whose advantages include excellent productive potential and upright plant architecture and good leaf health. "In addition to target spot, this variety also performs well in the field in terms of controlling diseases that affect soybean crops, such as anthracnose, frog eye spot and macrophomine. Varieties with Intacta 2 Xtend counter a greater spectrum of pests, protecting seeds against insect damage and enabling the use of dicamba, which is a great ally of farmers in terms of avoiding competition from weeds," he further added.
Complementing the portfolio in Mato Grosso, another highlight is the variety of Refuge, M 8323 XTD, which is widely used and performs well throughout the state.
"It is important to encourage the adoption of Refuge as an important practice in the strategy to delay the development of pest resistance to Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) technology, meaning that the planting of seeds without Bt technology by at least 20% of total plot area is essential for soybean farmers to continue obtaining high productivity in the coming harvests," Everaldo stressed.
For the northern and western regions of Paraná, Monsoy launched the “M 6110 i2x” variety, which has a robust sanitary package for leaf health, in addition to an early cycle adjusted for these areas. "AM 6110 i2x focuses on productivity but is also known for its excellent performance against target spot, a disease that worries soybean farmers in this state. In addition, in areas of altitude, productive potential can be increased," he pointed out.
Still focusing on these locations, Monsoy recommends the “M 6100 XTD” variety for planting Refuge. For Brazil’s new agricultural frontier, popularly called “Matopiba” (Maranhão, Piauí, Tocantins and Bahia), the highlights are the “M 8606 i2x” variety, which has high productive potential and maturity level adjusted to the planting conditions of the north of the country, mainly Maranhão, Piauí and Tocantins, as well as the “M 8220 i2x” variety, which is intended for western Bahia, Piauí and Maranhão.
