The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) officially published the updated FAO standards for 2,4-D Technical (http://www.fao.org/3/cb0999en/cb0999en.pdf), led by three organizations, Jiangxi Tianyu Chemical Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of CAC Group), the US Industry Task Force II on 2,4-D Research Data and the 2,4-D Annex III Task Force of the European Union, which jointly established, applied and finally passed the FAO’s experts’ review.
By working together with two multinational task forces in Europe and the US, Tianyu became one of the assessment parties of the 2,4-D FAO standards and the only Chinese enterprise participating in upgrading the 2,4-D international industrial standards.
Historically, the Chinese 2,4-D industry lagged behind international market standards for a long time. Pollution issues and low average quality were the problems of the Chinese 2,4-D industry, leading to a lack of recognition and low competitiveness in the global market. CAC has been committed to systematically improving the industrial standard of Chinese 2,4-D since 2009. After years of R&D, CAC developed a clean process for 2,4-D manufacturing to solve the problems of pollution and waste treatment, while producing superior quality products. With these achievements, a process development project was selected as part of the national S&T program within the 12th Five-Year Plan.
At present, the clean production process has been industrialized by Tianyu, a subsidiary of the CAC Group. Two production units have performed well since the trial operation, and production capacity ranks at leading international levels. The 2,4-D produced by Tianyu has specific characteristics, such as high content of active ingredients, no odor, good fluidity, no dust, and low dioxin content (far below European and US limits). CAC’s products have been widely welcomed by domestic and international buyers. Due to its advanced manufacturing technique, Tianyu has maintained a stable and reliable supply while meeting the stringent criteria of China’s environmental protection policy in recent years. CAC has gained the trust of customers and achieved rapid growth in just a few years, evolving from a start-up to a leading international 2,4-D production enterprise.
The FAO’s standards are the internationally applied standards. The participation of Tianyu in the formulation of new 2,4-D FAO standards is an accomplishment for CAC Group, a Chinese manufacturing enterprise recognized as an industry leader rather than just a follower. This is also changing the views of the global industry regarding Chinese 2,4-D manufacturers. Participating in establishing the standards of the FAO/WHO will be important for CAC, to assure promising quality and enhance the international brand.
