Azotic Technologies, a UK-based global ag-tech company, is at the forefront of moving towards climate smart agriculture through developing sustainable solutions to the global challenge of fertiliser overuse and nitrogen pollution.
Azotic’s natural nitrogen-fixing technology (N-Fix®). N-Fix® is a disruptive technology which has the potential to totally transform agriculture and is unique to Azotic. N-Fix®, derived from a naturally occurring beneficial food grade bacterium Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus (Gd), colonises plant cells intracellularly and enables plants to fix nitrogen from the air. This is based on a natural nitrogen fixing endophyte which improves agricultural productivity.
More importantly, it provides a real cost benefit to growers through reducing fertiliser costs and improving crop yields.
A robust commercial formulation has been developed for corn and soybean and this is being sold in the USA through a Grower Partner Programme. This technology is registered in all 50 US States and Canada as in-furrow and foliar applications.
Commercial sales on corn and soybean in the US has reduced the need for applied nitrogen fertiliser on average by 27% without impacting yield. The nitrogen fixation treatment on maize which was applied in-furrow delivered on average between 5-13% yield increase and in some cases up to 20%.
A product based on the N-Fix technology has been developed for rice with an optimised dose, formulation and delivery process. A series of independent field trials on rice were carried out in Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam by accredited contract research organisations during 2017-2020. Overall yield increases varied between 17% and 22%.
Azotic has an active product development pipeline which includes a dry formulation, a foliar spray and new patents. Azotic’s patented portfolio includes in-furrow and foliar spray applications (Corn & Soya), seed soak treatment technologies (Rice) and equivalent dry alternatives under development for market launch across the world.
Azotic’s success has been achieved by a highly experienced management and technical team with proven experience in the development and commercialisation of new technologies within agriculture. In order to further continue company development Azotic is looking at appropriate partnerships in R&D, licence agreements and assistance with market entry.
According to Peter Blezard, CEO of Azotic: “Agriculture requires more efficient and sustainable farming practices in order to increase food supply and maintain biodiversity. Azotic’s technology will change global agricultural practice in the years to come.”
