The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has before it an application for the approval of a new fungicide active constituent, geraniol, and new product, Novellus Fungicide, containing this constituent applied by Eden Research PLC.
The APVMA has evaluated the chemistry aspects of geraniol active constituent (physico-chemical properties, identification, stability, manufacturing process, quality control procedures, batch analysis results and analytical methods) and found them to be acceptable.
The APVMA has completed a toxicological evaluation of geraniol, and is satisfied that the proposed importation and use of geraniol would not be an undue toxicological hazard to the safety of people exposed to it during its handling and use.
The APVMA has evaluated the application of Novellus Fungicide. The APVMA is satisfied that the proposed use of Novellus Fungicide would not be an undue hazard to the safety of people exposed to it during its handling and use, or using anything containing its residues, and the proposed use of Novellus Fungicide is not likely to be harmful to human beings, animals, plants, or things or the environment if used according to the product label directions.
The APVMA is also satisfied that data from trials supporting the efficacy of the product Novellus Fungicide adequately demonstrate that if used according to the product label directions, the product is effective for its proposed uses.
The proposed use of Novellus Fungicide would not adversely affect trade between Australia and places outside the country.
The APVMA invites any person to submit a relevant written submission as to whether the application for approval of geraniol should be granted or Novellus Fungicide should be registered.
Other recently approved pesticides based on new active constituents are illustrated in the below table.
