Mandated by the FIFRA(Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act), EPA has issued an updated schedule Wednesday for periodic registration review program of all registered pesticides.
The timetable for opening dockets from fiscal year (FY) 2011 to 2014 of the registration review program and information on dockets that opened in FY 2007 through FY 2010 are included in this updates. And EPA’s plan to continue to open about 70 new dockets each year through 2017 is revealed in this schedule as well. Thus EPA is planned to complete the first 15-year cycle of registration review by October 1, 2022 for all registered pesticides since October 1, 2007.
The updated schedule conveyed EPA’s decision to review all pesticides in three groups- the imidazolinones, pyridines, and isothiazolinones. For the imidazolinones herbicides, the only one of this family subjected to reregistration is imazapyr and other 6 pesticides is given priority to the registration review in a common timeframe. For Pyridine herbicides, though been identified as posing potential risk to non-target plants and residual problems, only a portion of the pyridine family was subject to reregistration, and the rest of this group are to be review in a common timeframe. The Isothiazolinones group is to be considered uses by EPA in the review under a common timeframe starting in FY 2014 .
EPA is announcing the furnishing of the updated schedule and may consider issues raised by the public or the registrant when reviewing a posted schedule, to schedule or modify the schedule of the related pesticides registration. The schedule will be update at least once every year.
