Agri supply chain to get machinery

Construction of agriculture supply chain centres at seven places in the district is over and machinery will be installed this month, an agricultural marketing department official said.

The department has been constructing facilities at Chikkadasampalayam, Sulur, Vadakkipalayam, Pooluvampatti, Pitchanur, Anaimalai and Pollachi. While the facility at Sulur will be an export facility for horticulture produce, others will be primary processing centres.

The centres will have facilities for primary processing and cold storage. They are expected to reduce post-harvest loss.

The centres will allow farmers process their produce and sell them directly to markets, thereby eliminating middlemen. They will also have facilities for making value-added products from produce, reducing losses during glut season.
