Date:01-21-2011
The National Agency for Sanitary Vigilance (Anvisa) ordered the banning of the pesticide methamidophos in Brazil. The product, used in cotton, peanuts, potatoes, beans, tomatoes and wheat can cause harm to the fetus, in addition to being toxic to the neurological and immune system. The substance is also harmful to the reproductive system and endocrine system. This is the fourth pesticide whose marketing is prohibited by Anvisa since 2008, when the agency prepared a list of 14 products with re-suspected of causing damage to health.
