Date:01-07-2020
A major explosion rocked an ammonia-urea plant factory of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL) at Namrup in Assam's Dibrugarh district on Monday.
The explosion destroyed several machines and properties at the plant.
No casualties were reported in the explosion, BVFCL PRO said.
The explosion was so powerful that it could be heard across a 10-15 km radius.
BVFCL PRO Pranab Kumar Bhattachrya said the blast occurred around 12:45 am.
"After hearing a big sound, we rushed to the area and found that, massive fire caught the plant. Some assembles of gases also caught fire. We also found that, the outer line of the synthetic gas compressor of the plant was burst and immediately the plant caught fire," Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said.
Later, fire tenders of BVFCL, Oil India and Assam Petro-chemicals Limited (APL) had managed to control the situation after a one and half hour battle.
The plant might be shut down for several days as repair work needs to be done due to the major damages caused by the explosion.
A similar explosion occurred at the BVFCL, Namrup plant on May 19 last year, which caused major damages at the plant.
