RiceTec seeds test new materials with rice industry
Date:12-09-2019
Rice seed technology multinational RiceTec met last week with one of South America's largest food companies in Camaquã (RS) to test their new materials.
One of these materials, XP117 itself, is already in its first business year. The first areas sown are in Granja Quatro Irmãos, in Rio Grande. The property directors, Leandro Flores and Jorge de Barros Iglesias, also followed the tests carried out with the rice industry. “It is a hybrid of high productive potential, of medium cycle and high initial vigor. We are very pleased with the performance on the field, ”said Jorge Iglesias.
RiceTec Research and Improvement Program
“ It was a very interesting activity where we were able to demonstrate the very high grain quality of our materials, which should soon reach producers in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, which makes this relationship with the industry even more important,” says Edgar Alonso. .
To this end, the program routinely conducts multi-environmental yield trials and various assessments to determine the resistance of their experimental hybrids to the different biotic and abiotic stresses present in the irrigated rice crop.
The XP117, for example, is a hybrid with high yield potential, medium cycle (approximately 135 days), high initial vigor, and lodging tolerance profiling. Regarding grain quality characteristics, the XP117 has good whole grain yield, on average 62%, low plaster area, high amylose content and low gelatinization temperature, highly desirable characteristics for excellent cooking.
