Euralis announces the construction of a seed production factory in Russia
Date:11-05-2019
Euralis Semences is launching a project to build a seed production factory in Russia. The site will be located near Voronezh, 470 kilometres south of Moscow. This is a major project for Euralis.
The site, within the “Pavlovsk” socio-economic development zone, will extend over at least 100 hectares, of which approximately twenty will be allocated to the factory and warehouses, while the remaining 80 hectares will host a research and selection centre, as well as an “agro-centre”, a technological showcase for the brand. “The climatic and agronomic conditions in the region are perfect for the production of quality seed. In addition, the region’s economic and human fabric will provide a skilled workforce and ideal infrastructures, making it a major logistics hub to reach out to our markets”, said Philippe Saux, Director of Euralis Semences.
With an annual production capacity of 10,000 tonnes of seed, this facility will, over the years, also create around one hundred permanent jobs.
The first construction phase is scheduled to take place in 2020-2021 in order to be operational for the 2021 crop year. The project will end in 2022. With 8 million hectares of sunflower, 4 million hectares of corn and 3 million hectares of soya, the Russian market offers the greatest potential on the European continent, in both the oilseed and non-oilseed segments. This investment will support the commercial development of Euralis Semences, which is already well established in Russia. Based on a high-performance gene flow, the aim is to increase sales in the country from 500,000 units today to 1 million units in 2025.
By maximising local production, the factory will provide both a guarantee of sustainability on the Russian market and a key to competitiveness. The newly constructed site will meet all the Euralis quality requirements to optimise customer satisfaction.
