AGM presents new 2,4-D-based herbicide Weizen in Argentina
Date:09-19-2019
The AGM company presented its new herbicide, Weizen, which is an evolution of 2,4-D, with the main novelty being in its formulation as a microemulsion, since it allows one to apply the active ingredient directly in its acid form, which is how it should be in order to be absorbed by plants.
It promises to be a superior option compared to traditional formulations in amine salt and ester forms that, after being applied, must still undergo transformation into their acid form.
In addition to complying with all the current Senasa regulatory standards, this new formulation offers other advantages. The microemulsion is composed of micelles, drops 30 times smaller than those of a common emulsion, which favor a greater contact surface of the active ingredient with the leaf and, together with the optimal pH (acidity), increase the penetration capacity of the herbicide, while reducing the risk of washing off by rain. Consequently, the active ingredient offers greater efficiency, which results in a lower need for loading to achieve the same results.
This technology also brings about operational advantages on the side of tank mixtures, a common problem with salt-based herbicides, which in the case of this microemulsion has shown good behavior. It also stands out for its greater application window in soybean (it can be applied up to seven days before planting), as well as for the absence of odor, which is practically imperceptible.
Rubén Meoni, Market Development Coordinator of AGM Argentina, said that “this solution is presented as a new alternative to simplify the work of producers who need to protect their crops from broadleaf weeds, such as Yuyo Colorado (Amaranthus quitensis) and Rama Negra (Conyza bonariensis), which be resistant to glyphosate, are the ones that have the greatest impact on the Argentinian production of grains and oilseeds”.
