Indian Agriculture Department cracks down on dealers selling spurious farm inputs
Date:08-21-2019
To provide genuine pesticides and quality agriculture inputs to farmers in the state, the Agriculture Department has launched a drive to undertake vigorous inspection of pesticide and fertiliser shops and godowns on mass level over the past 10 days to prevent sale of spurious farm inputs.
Divulging details of the drive, KS Pannu, Secretary, Agriculture said statewide raids had been conducted on 410 shops and subsequently 207 samples had been drawn from various pesticide and fertiliser shops and sent for examination. Consequently, out of the results received so far, five samples were found misbranded.
A first information report (FIR) has been registered in one case and in another a complaint has been filed with the police for appropriate action, besides seizure of stock at four places, he added.
He further stated that the checking of pesticide shops would continue till the drive against unscrupulous dealers reached its logical end as the sole aim of this move was to prevent them from selling or supplying spurious pesticides in the state.
He pointed out that several flying squads had been pressed into service for inter-district checking. “Three teams have already been assigned duties to inspect railway stations in Mansa district, suspected to be transporting spurious pesticides from neighbouring states,” he said.
