Interoc seeks to gain ground in Colombia agrochemicals market

The largest challenge for the agrochemical industry in Colombia is, according to Santiago Acevedo, general manager of Interoc Colombia, that all companies comply with regulations in order to guarantee sustainability in the field, at the same time that farmers become increasingly professional.
"We must improve the portfolio to address environmental issues. Farmers need business knowledge to grow," said Acevedo, whose company operates in Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, as well as in Costa Rica and Bolivia, generating sales of over US$ 100 million per year.
Specifically, Colombia is the third largest market for the company, with US$ 10 million in sales every year. In Peru it sees sales of US$ 30 million, while in Ecuador it reports annual revenues of up to US$ 90 million. However, in the local area where the company only has a 2% stake, and competed with others, such as Bayer and Syngenta, it is currently looking to grow through a strategy that allows it to position its products among farmers.
"Interoc generates innovative mixtures for pests in crops. In Colombia, we are in a restructuring and management of our marketing strategy and portfolio position. We want to offer the most attractive products for farmers. We aspire to have between US$ 15 and US$ 20 million in sales during the next three or four years," added Acevedo.
The company markets agrochemicals and nutritional products with a large portfolio, especially for rice, flowers, potatoes and vegetables.
