Syngenta announced the registration in Brazil of the herbicide Calaris (atrazine + mesotrione) for the control of broadleaf weeds in maize. "Calaris has two active ingredients that are highly effective and selective for maize in Brazil," explains José Santos, Syngenta's Herbicides leader in Brazil.
Noted Santos, the herbicide Calaris has "a high level of effectiveness and management of herbs resistant to glyphosate" - a problem that grows in Brazil. It also highlights the superiority of the newly launched product, in relation to products made with atrazine.
"Another point is that the dose to be applied is low, around one liter per hectare, which differentiates it from the main product available on the market (atrazine), which uses three liters per hectare. In addition to the logistical, transport and storage benefits, we will have an advantage in product handling in the field. The farmer, himself, will be able to do this. It also will reduce the volume of waste to recycle packaging, respecting all environmental and sustainability aspects," said Santos.
According to Syngenta, the recommendation to use this solution is in the post-emergence, applied in isolation or in association with other herbicides. It is of foliar and root absorption. Mesotrione belongs to the chemical group of triketone and inhibits the biosynthesis of carotenoids (inhibiting the activity of the enzyme 4-hydroxyphenyl-Purified Dioxigenese, 4 HPPD).
Syngenta presented the herbicide Calaris in the state of São Paulo, in an event held between March 18 and 22. "We know how much this new tool to control weeds like sourgrass (Digitaria insularis) and broad leaves, which are great detractors of the productivity in corn crops, has been awaited and can now be used by farmers in the field, who will benefit from broad spectrum and high efficacy," said Santos.
"Syngenta has invested heavily in research and dissemination to ensure that Calaris is now on the market not as a promise, but as a consolidated and proven solution for controlling weeds in maize, and also without restrictions for different types of hybrids. Some 500 demonstration areas have been implemented in Brazil and more than 400 field days have been carried out in the last two years, with the presence of farmers, distributors, technicians and consultants to demonstrate the benefits of the product," added Santos.
