India agriculture department cautions farmers against attack of aphid pest on wheat

The Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare department on Tuesday organized a block level farmers' awareness camp in Nauli village in Jalandhar East Block of the district and sensitized the peasants regarding Aphid pest, generally known as Tela and Karnal Bunt, a wheat crop disease.
Presiding over the camp, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Nazar Singh apprised the farmers about attack of Aphid pest or Karnal Bunt, wheat crop disease and asked them to visit the wheat fields regularly and inform the agriculture department.
Dr Singh said that Tela usually attacks crop during rising temperature and farmers should spray pesticides only if there are a number of Aphids are being spotted on wheat crop. He said that the pesticide must not be sprayed unnecessarily as it can kill several natural enemies of this insect in the fields which eat them.
