FMC Argentina launched the fungicide Rubric Max, which targets the end-of-cycle diseases in soybeans. These threats are emerging strongly due to abundant rains, accompanied by high temperatures, which marked the harvest of the South American country in 2018.
"The cases of Brown spot (Septoria glycines) are above what can be considered normal. We are also seeing bacteriosis and it is very likely that the crops planted early will soon show Cercospora Kikuchii. Aside from bacteriosis, the other diseases are within the end-of-cycle complex of soybeans and are the producer's headache in this crop," said agricultural engineer Emiliano Meroi, seed and fungicide manager at FMC.
"We are seeing that farmers are already applying fungicides as they perceive their crops will be hit by heavy rains and high temperatures. All this shows us that this will be a year of high sales of fungicides, and the producer must include this in the costs, because it will represent an economic gain in the future," Meroi explained.
He commemorated the register of Rubric Max for soybean, as it is a "product of the future. We have worked on wheat and barley, where it has demonstrated excellent performance in controlling diseases that have occurred". Tests carried out with the product have confirmed a highly efficient performance in the soybean crop.
According to Meroi, this was due to the "balanced concentration of strobilurin plus a triazole (20% azoxystrobin + 10% epoxiconazole), and a very marked anti-sporulating preventive and curative effect for the package of diseases that attack during the final stretch of soybean. It is a translaminar product that has an interesting effect on crops with high foliage to ensure better coverage. Residuality is higher, from 15 to 18 days, rapidly penetrating the plant through the cuticle".
According to the manufacturer, diseases that can be controlled by Rubric Max are Septoria glycines, Cercospora sojina, Cercospora kikuchii and Mildew (Peronospora manshurica). In these cases, it is advisable to apply from R3 (beginning of fruiting) with 40 millimeters of accumulated rainfall or during the first symptoms.
In case of Asian rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi), the recommended dose is 300cc per hectare, but the first symptoms should be observed. If favorable conditions persist for the disease, experts recommend a second application before the appearance of new pustules.
