Sales of Sumitomo Chemical’s Health & Crop Sciences segment up 2% for the nine months FY 2018

The sales revenue of Sumitomo Chemical’s Health & Crop Sciences segment fell by ¥3.5 billion for the first nine months ended December 31, 2018 compared with the same period of the previous fiscal year, to ¥212.7 billion. Because of such factors as margin erosion from an increase in raw material prices, core operating income declined by ¥14.7 billion, to ¥3.9 billion compared with the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Shipments of agricultural chemicals increased in South America and Asia. On the other hand, sales of the feed additive methionine dropped due to lower market prices. In addition, depreciation of emerging market currencies had a negative effect on sales from overseas subsidiaries in yen terms.
