Brazil: Eduardo Fortunato Bim named President of Ibama
Date:01-21-2019
Federal prosecutor Eduardo Fortunato Bim was appointed to serve as president of the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama). The name of Eduardo Bim for the organ had already been announced by the Minister of the Environment, Ricardo Salles.
Ibama's former president, Suely Araujo, anticipated his departure from office after President Jair Bolsonaro and Minister of the Environment Salles questioned a lease agreement signed by IBAMA. Suely said the prosecution has no basis and "shows complete ignorance of the magnitude" of the organ and its functions.
The appointment of the new president of IBAMA is published on January 9 in the Official Gazette (DOU) in an extra edition.
