China’s Shandong Province to relocate 37 hazardous chemical production enterprises

On the December 19, a work safety videoconference on hazardous chemical production was held in Shandong Province, China.
According to information from the videoconference, Shandong Province decided to relocate 37 enterprises within the province, which will involve 11 cities and 12,000 employees and will cost Yuan78 billion in total.
In 2018, Shandong Province has been relocating and updating facilities that produce hazardous chemicals within populated urban areas, to eliminate hidden risks. All cities in the province began to prepare for the relocation and renovation plan, which will be implemented in an orderly manner.
Shandong has also actively rated local chemical enterprises, to shut down those that do not comply with work safety regulations, according to the results of ratings. Among the 6,094 rated chemical enterprises, 1,000 were rated ‘Good,’ 2,740 were ‘Fair’ and 2,354 were ‘Poor’. The rating of all 860 hazardous chemical storage enterprises has already been completed, as well as the rating of 756 hazardous chemical land transportation enterprises, or 90.3% of the total number to be rated.
Shandong is prepared to strengthen its measures to further improve the work safety management of hazardous chemical production and advance the implementation of action plans for the chemical industry. The province will facilitate the process of endorsing chemical parks, which is required to be completed by the end of 2018, as well as key monitoring sites by the end of June 2019.
