US tariffs to have limited effect on China's fertilizer trade
Date:10-16-2018
ICIS reports that "the US tariffs against China are not likely to have any major impact on the fertilizers market, even though the final list includes nearly all the crop nutrients produced in China".
The US tariffs list on Chinese goods include all fertilizers including urea, ammonium sulphate (AS), ammonium nitrate (AN), urea ammonium nitrate (UAN), diammonium phosphate (DAP), or monoammonium phosphate (MAP).
However, as the trade of fertilizers between the US and China is limited, the tariffs are expected to have a small impact.
ICIS reported that "the US has gradually been reducing imports from China and has access to several markets for procuring fertilizers, given the growing and abundant supply of fertilizers worldwide.
From the 24 September, US tariffs imposed 10% on fertilizer products, a figure that is due to increase on the 1 January 2019 to 25%.
