To invest in development and production, Horticoop is selling its wholesale activities
Date:10-09-2018
Horticoop will be placing its business focus on development and production. With this new direction in mind, the sale of a vast share of its Dutch wholesale activities will be effective as from 1st November 2018. Conceded activities involve the purchase and sale of fertilisers, chemical and biological crop protection, along with associated logistics and distribution.
The acquiring parties are Van Iperen, Koppert Biological Systems and Mertens.
Horticoop sought reputable businesses for the sale of its wholesale activities. This sale does not exclusively cover the activities themselves, for Van Iperen and Koppert Biological Systems will also be maintaining all associated Horticoop employees. 'In doing so, we can ensure that the knowledge and expertise developed by our staff will be upheld for the industry'. According to Igo Janssen, managing director of Horticoop, this was a crucial condition for the sale.
The fertiliser and chemical crop protection business, including associated logistics and distribution, will be taken over by Van Iperen as from 1st November 2018. In addition, Van Iperen will be operating Horticoop's distribution hub in De Lier.
The biological crop protection business, inclusive of logistics and distribution, will be taken over by Koppert Biological Systems as from 1st November 2018.
Sales and deliveries of Substrafeed liquid fertilisers will be taken over by Mertens as from 1st November 2018.
A specialist providing added value
Over recent years, Horticoop has developed to become, among other activities, a leading supplier and developer of advanced horticultural technology and a producer of high-grade substrates. The added value of these products and services - in the form of innovation, expertise and service - has been increasingly acknowledged by the industry. And it is precisely this business model that Horticoop seeks to specifically invest in over the coming years; that of a specialist offering added value. The same strategy has led the company to decide to discontinue its wholesale activities in crop protection and fertilisers.
Wholesale activities in horticultural necessities will, in contrast, be continued by Horticoop and the company is currently studying the most appropriate form and location for this activity.
What changes can customers expect from now to the 1st of November?
Up to the 1st of November, the current situation will remain unchanged and customers will receive products and services as usual and according to existing Horticoop practice. Horticoop and its acquiring parties have already made considerable efforts to ensure that the transition after November 1st will be made as smoothly as possibly. We will keep customers posted during the coming weeks, so that they know exactly where they stand.
