Avicta Complete Corn Offers 6 Bushel-per-Acre Average Yield Increase for a Minimum 3-to-1 Return on Investment
Date:08-30-2010
Results from three years of testing show that Avicta Complete Corn, a combination of Avicta seed treatment nematicide, Cruiser® seed treatment insecticide and Apron XL®, Maxim® XL and Dynasty® seed treatment fungicides, can deliver a six bushel-per-acre average yield increase on 85 percent of acres over time.
"Avicta Complete Corn will provide the greatest impact on yield when early-season stress, like lack of moisture, is combined with nematode feeding,” stated Dr. Palle Pedersen, technical manager for
Syngenta Seedcare. “For Avicta Complete Corn to deliver the yield benefit we saw in varying conditions over the past three years is a testament to the ability of this technology to improve corn yields.”
Steven Gamble, a grower in Sardinia, South Carolina, said he saw a big yield difference. “I think Avicta Complete Corn was a lot better than Cruiser Extreme 250. That’s what we compared it to. I think the nematode control on top of the insect control has given us a yield boost. If I can get enough yield increase to pay for the technology, then I’m ahead of the ballgame. Anything else I can get is money in the bank.”
Mark Boshart, a grower near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, agreed. “Higher yield and the resulting return on investment are the biggest benefits of Avicta Complete Corn,” he said. “I’ve been involved in a lot of data trials and was pleasantly surprised with Avicta Complete Corn. It was very consistent and had a positive return when compared to Cruiser Extreme 250. I’d recommend this treatment to other growers. Nematodes are a silent pest so you don’t always see the effects, but Avicta Complete Corn is good insurance—if the problem is there, it’s going to take care of it.”
Growers using Avicta Complete Corn can expect to see a minimum 3-to-1 return on their investment with a six bushel-per-acre average yield increase using a commodity price of $3.50 per bushel.
Avicta Complete Corn was commercially available for the first time this growing season. In its ongoing commitment to research and development,
Syngenta Seedcare plans to continue testing Avicta Complete Corn to evaluate its performance and value, and will make additional information available as it is collected. Yield benefits and product satisfaction will be evaluated and results will be distributed in early 2011.
Avicta Complete Corn nematicide/insecticide/fungicide combination helps guard against damage from early-season pests that can inhibit emergence, plant stand, plant health and ultimately yield potential. Avicta Complete Corn provides immediate protection against nematodes causing yield loss in corn. Cruiser, the insecticide component in Avicta Complete Corn, provides consistent early-season protection against a broad spectrum of troublesome insect pests including wireworm, chinch bug, seedcorn maggot, southern corn leaf beetle and corn flea beetle. Additionally, Avicta Complete Corn boasts the most robust seed treatment fungicides on the market to protect corn seedlings against seed- and soil-borne disease pathogens, including Alternaria, Fusarium, Cladosporium, Rhizoctonia and Pythium.
