The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Brazil (Mapa) has opened a public consultation process to receive suggestions and commentaries about the procedures, recommendations and rules before releasing the so-called “on tank mixture.” The ordinance 148 presents a protocol for a Joint Normative Instruction with criteria and procedures, as well as its prescription as an agronomic recipe.
The weed, pest and disease infestation, often occur simultaneously in a farm. In such a situation, the most economical alternative to control and, therefore, the more commonly adopted by the producers is the pesticide spray mixture in the tank. Nearly 97% of Brazilian farmers use tank mixtures and most of the time 95% using 2-5 products, most often using the highest recommended doses.
The suggestions and commentaries coming through public consultation, which are backed technically, will be forwarded to the address agrotoxico.consultapublica@agricultura.gov.br or the Department of Agricultural Inputs Enforcement of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply.
The technique is banned in Brazil, it is practised by 97% of the applications of agrochemicals in the country, according to an Embrapa research. According to information provided by the Association of Corn and Soybean Growers of Mato Grosso, the issue was widely debated and the regulation is almost in place. Following the debate, it has to pass through a juridical analysis and the Ministries of Natural Environmental and Health, after which it will be published.
