Chinese innovative herbicide clacyfos included in Pesticide Manual
Date:12-01-2017
The latest Pesticide Manual (2017) has included listings for 862 pesticide varieties worldwide, 16 of which are innovative Chinese pesticide varieties. Clacyfos is the sole herbicide among the various Chinese pesticides, as developed independently by a research team led by Professor He Hongwu of the Pesticide and Organic Chemistry Research Institute, the College of Chemistry, Central China Normal University.
In light of the lack of pyruvate dehydrogenase-targeted herbicide applications worldwide, He Hongwu’s research team uses botanic pyruvate dehydrogenase as a target, and successfully developed the novel high-efficient, low-toxic, low-residue and environmentally-friendly herbicide clacyfos (CAS No.215655-76-8). This product variety is a potent inhibitor against botanic pyruvate dehydrogenase system, and can effectively control broad-leaf weed and sedge weed in lawns, wheat, corn, paddy rice fields, orchards and tea gardens. The product is free of the problems of high toxicity, poor efficacy and low selectivity existing with pyruvate dehydrogenase inhibitors, thus enabling it to become the first applicable inhibitor against botanic pyruvate dehydrogenase system.
According to an evaluation by expert team, the product is not only a Chinese innovative herbicide for control of broad-leaf weed, but also enables a new approach through the use of bio-rational design for the exploration of the new target enzyme-oriented herbicidal mechanism, based on the understanding of plant metabolic processes.
