Bayer CropScience was granted registration in Brazil for the active ingredient, bixafen technical, which is a new generation Succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor.
The registration of the fungicide, which belongs to the chemical group, carboxamides, was deferred due to the requested release of the publication, on October 3, 2017, of the Official Union Gazette No. 23,617, before approval by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
Bixafen is a carboxamide that belongs to the subclass, Pyrazole 4, which inhibits the cells of pathogen fungi from breathing, and belongs to FRAC group 7. The chemical has a wide range of uses against the most serious crop diseases caused by fungi from the classes Ascomycetes, Basidiomycetes and Deuteromycetes.
Through the chemical’s systemic activity and long-lasting residual effect, it is absorbed by the cuticle and translocated in the plant through the xylem. The translocation speed is moderate, which is optimal for bringing a uniform distribution of the active ingredient throughout the leaves. Its biochemical mode of action is based on the inhibition of succinate dehydrogenase, a complex II enzyme that affects the mitochondrial respiration of fungi.
“Bixafen provides excellent protection for all types of crops, including all cereal crops. It has demonstrated a high level of activity, as well as excellent long-lasting effects. When combined with the complementary physiochemistry of the ingredients, bixafen and prothioconazole, it will develop a new base for the Fox Xpro technology, which will establish new standards of disease control and provide high grain yields,” according to Bayer.
“Xpro is part of Bayer’s investment in Brazilian agriculture and will become an indispensable tool for crop protection, contributing to increasing yields and the sustainability of major crops in our market,” stressed Marcos Dallagnese, fungicide manager at Bayer.
