Canada to cancel certain uses of dichlorvos
Date:10-30-2017
The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) is consulting Canadians on proposed changes to the way dichlorvos can be used, to further protect health and the environment. This consultation is open for comment from 25 October 2017 to 23 January 2018 (90 calendar days).
Due to health concerns, the following changes are proposed:
• Cancellation of use of dichlorvos strips used indoors in domestic and commercial areas (excluding areas that are unoccupied for a minimum of 4 months)
• Cancellation of use on commercial greenhouse cucumbers, tomatoes and cut flower ornamentals, as well as for outdoor mosquito control and outdoor residential areas
• Additional protection for workers applying dichlorvos or entering treated areas
Dichlorvos is a pesticide used by growers, licensed applicators and the general public to control insects on crops, in buildings and in and around homes.
