Monsanto to launch NemaStrike for corn, soybean in Brazil

Monsanto is expected to launch the nematicide NemaStrike (tioxazafen) against nematodes for use on corn and soybean. The maker explained that the product was a solution that would counter-attack the root zone infested by the plague, while at the same time bring a consistent yield protection.

 

Currently, parasite nematodes cause an estimated loss of 14% to the world’s agricultural production, with losses estimated to be around US$80 to $100 billion, which necessitated the preoccupation, and more investments into the agricultural product for control of nematodes.

 

NemaStrike is still at the testing stage. Projected to work on corn and soybean crops, the product is based on the tioxazafen active principle. According to Monsanto, the nematicide presents two benefits; the first is safety, because of lower toxicity, being less aggressive to human health, the environment and a lower adverse effect on other soil organisms.

 

The second benefit pointed out by the market is NemaStrike’s acting time. The nematode has a 30-day life cycle, which represents not less than two and a half cycle of the nematode.
