Brazil's Anvisa changes rules for acephate sales
Date:09-19-2017
The Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has established a new procedure for the commercialization of the acephate insecticide. By the end of August, farmers and companies who wish to sell or buy this active ingredient need to access the website
www.acessoagro.com.br and sign in. They also have to watch a training video and sign electronically a responsibility clause.
The requirement, which is initially valid for the states of Goiás, São Paulo and Minas Gerais, will be extended to other states. The new procedure, which was established by resolution No. 45, followed the toxicological re-evaluation of acephate that was required as a condition to maintain the product in the market.
The clause has to be signed by the owner and the technician of the company, after consulting with the corresponding legal entity. In the term, the salesman must commit to supply acephate “exclusively to trained users and to only those who have signed the valid commitment clause.” The establishment should deliver a pamphlet about the product and inform about the availability of the pamphlet online to purchasers, as well as help with all the necessary safety information for the appropriate use of the product.
In Brazil, acephate is present as an active ingredient in 19 products which belong to several formulators.
