Pesticide production meets 80% of Iran’s domestic demand

Currently 80% of the pesticides needed in Iran’s agriculture sector are produced inside the country, the head of Plant Protection Organization of Iran, Mohammad Ali Baghestani, said.
“All the domestically-produced pesticides are manufactured in accordance with Food and Agriculture Organization’s standards,” he was quoted as saying by ILNA.
FAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. It is also a source of knowledge and information, and helps develop countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices, ensuring good nutrition and food security.
According to the head of Iranian Genetics Society, Samira Kahak, per capita consumption of pesticides in Iran is around 400 grams per year as opposed to 70 grams in the European countries and 80 grams in the United States.
