Brazil imports $563.1mn worth pesticides in first four months of 2017

Brazil has imported US$563.1 million worth of agrochemicals between the months of January and April 2017. Of this, $408.4 million was spent on formulated products and $154.6 million on active ingredients.

 

With the result, the value accumulated in the first four months of this year showed a decrease of 15.7 percent over the $668.9 million worth of agrochemicals purchased abroad in the same period last year. The data was released by the Brazilian Association of the Chemical Industry, based on information provided by the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade, and Services.

 

Overall, Brazil imported $2.8 billion worth of chemical products for the agricultural business between January and April 2017, including fertilizers, intermediaries, and agrochemicals. The country spent 13.68 percent more on imports this year, compared with the $2.46 billion spent in 2016.

 

The intermediate products for fertilizers continue to lead the Brazilian imports of chemical products. The country purchased $1.9 billion worth of intermediate products between January and April 2017, which represents an increase of 28.7 percent, compared with the same months last year.

 

Fertilizers alone accounted for $304.25 million worth of purchases in the months from January to April 2017. The numbers indicated a slight increase of 3.3 percent over the purchases made last year in the same period.
