Andermatt’s biopesticide Bb-Protec granted emergency registration in South Africa
Date:04-21-2017
Plant Health Products, the South African subsidiary of Andermatt Biocontrol, has obtained an emergency registration in South Africa for Eco-Bb (=Bb-Protec) to be used for the management of Fall Armyworm (FAW, Spodoptera frugiperda), in response to a request from the South Africa Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF).
Bb-Protec is a wettable powder concentrate of Beauveria bassiana strain R444 for the control of a wide range of agricultural insect and mite pests.
Bb-Protec is ideal for use as a standalone pest control product or as part of an Integrated Pest Management program.
Scientific evidence suggests that Beauveria bassiana strains are able to effectively suppress FAW populations. Pest levels are monitored and field trials will be conducted with Eco-Bb as soon as possible. Eco-Bb is distributed by Madumbi Sustainable Agriculture in South Africa.
