Date:03-27-2017
Syngenta has released its opinion about decision of the Court of Justice for the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, which has banned the fungicide Mertin 400 (fentin hydroxide) for commercial use in the state, as well as ordered the recall of the product within 60 days.
Rice growers would have been spraying the product on irrigated crops, and have not been following the package recommendations for use.
The statement said:
“Syngenta clarifies that Mertin 400 is a fungicide registered for the control of diseases in kidney beans and cotton, as well as package expresses. The company will not manifest the judicial action, once it was not formally notified.”
“Syngenta stresses that it follows the highest standards of ethics and safety, follows all the norms for production and sales of its products and condemns the irregular use of its technologies. Besides, it affirms that it’s acting directly for good agricultural practices to foster a sustainable agriculture.”
