FMC launches bionematicide Quartzo in Brazil
Date:03-24-2017
FMC Agricultural Solutions announced the launch of Quetzo - a biological product for the control of nematodes on several crops in Brazil.
According to the maker, the product has high effectiveness and is recommended for any crop with the presence of lesion nematode (pratylenchus zeae) and root-knot nematode (meloidogyne incognita).
A biological product with low toxicity, Quartzo has a WG formulation and high concentration, as well as multiple mechanisms of action, coming from the synergy acting between the bacteria Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis. According to FMC, the bionematicide can be applied at the time of planting, as well as by transplanting of seedlings during the crop cycle or even after harvest.
“The product has biological origin, besides being safer and easy manageable. It has a low impact on the microbial flora of the soil and is highly effective on the management of nematodes, creating a biofilm around the root, which optimizes the absorption of water and nutrients, resulting in an increase of yields,” said Ronaldo Pereira, vice-president of FMC Latin America.
Pereira said he “is confident that Quartzo will be excellent for the integrated management of plagues and resistance management, involves easy management and is safe for the worker and the environment. Quartzo is a powerful tool in aiding the procedure for international certifications and helps agricultural crop express its potential.”
Lesion nematode has been one of the major challenges for farmers, as once it provokes injuries on root that work as “entrance door” for bacteria and fungi, it cause necroses and rotting. Due to its wide geographic distribution and number of host plants, these nematodes represent severe economic risk.
Affecting the root system, the root-knot nematode shrinks the absorption of water and nutrients, reducing growth and provoking the yellowing of leaves. Therefore, the plant ends up with quality losses and lower yields.
