Syngenta Canada Inc. is pleased to announce the introduction of Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® trait technology in its soybean varieties.
The Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® trait provides tolerance to both glyphosate (Group 9) and dicamba (Group 4) herbicides, allowing growers to use multiple modes of action to help manage tough-to-control weeds including glyphosate-resistant giant ragweed, common ragweed, and Canada fleabane.
Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® soybeans combine the proven yield potential of the Genuity® Roundup Ready 2 Yield® trait with a powerful new resistance management tool.
“The Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® platform is the latest soybean production standard which, in combination with the NK brand, allows us to bring new proprietary varieties with unique genetics to Canadian growers,” says Greg Good, Corn, Soybean and Vegetable Seeds Product Lead, with Syngenta Canada.
Good says Syngenta has limited quantities of several Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® varieties available for planting this spring, ranging from maturity group zero (MG0) through to maturity group three (MG3), with a good fit for many eastern Canadian soybean growing geographies, including southwestern Ontario, where glyphosate-resistant weeds are an issue.
Syngenta also plans to launch several new Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® varieties in fall 2017 for the 2018 planting season and will also begin transitioning existing varieties from the Genuity® Roundup Ready 2 Yield® platform to the Roundup Ready 2 Xtend® platform.
