Nufarm extends registration of Rivax fungicide in Brazil to cover corn

Nufarm has extended the registration of its fungicide Rivax (carbendazim + tebuconazole) with the Brazilian government to cover the corn crop. The product has received authorization for the control of Exserohilum turcicum, a causal agent of leaf blight in corn. According to the company, Rivax is a systemic, preventive and healing fungicide, and it is also recommended in the practice of resistance management on fungicides.

 

Agronomist Murilo Borges, manager of fungicides at Nufarm, said Rivax relied on a systemic mode of action and ensured a cost-effective control of the main foliar diseases on corn. “It is a protective technology with proven effectiveness, in which the key concept is the protection of corn during its entire cycle, whether it is summer or winter,” revealed Borges.

 

Borges stressed that foliar diseases required surveillance on the part of the farmers, mostly on the plantings done from November to March. 

 

“Crops infested by these diseases suffer losses through the photosynthetic reduction area because of injuries. The grain quality suffers owing to the surge of the so-called ‘burned grains’,” explained Borges. 

 

Burned grains in the Brazilian language are grains that have discoloring on at least a fourth of a surface, ranging from light brown to intense red, according to state-owned Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation Embrapa.

 

In order to achieve higher productivity each time in the growing market, the farmer should employ technologies that are cost-effective and favor profitability. “This fungicide will certainly emerge as an important technological tool at an attractive cost for the corn crop,” affirmed Borges.

 

“Prior to obtaining registration for corn, fungicide Rivas was known among producers for its effectiveness in the control of diseases on soybeans and kidney beans,” Borges concluded.
