ABRAPA expects Brazil's CTNBio to approve Bayer's GMO cotton in March
Date:03-03-2017
The Brazilian Association of Cotton Growers (ABRAPA) expects the country’s National Technical Commission of Biosafety (CTNBio) to approve a new genetically-modified technology for cotton: Glytol™ x Twinlink™ x VIPCOT™ Cotton (GHB614 x T304-40 x GHB119 x COT102) in its next meeting. The meeting is scheduled for March 8-9, 2017 in Brasília.
Bayer is awaiting a definitive evaluation to supply its new technology to Brazilian cotton growers. Glytol™ x Twinlink™ x VIPCOT™ Cotton, tolerant to glufosinate and glyphosate herbicides and resistant to Lepidoptera pest, has got approval from Australia, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
“It is very important for the cotton productive chain and for the Brazilian economy to have in hand effective products that make it possible to reduce the number of applications, minimize the environmental impact and shrink production costs,” the president of ABRAPA, Arlindo de Azevedo Moura, said. He said he is optimistic that the new technology will be approved this quarter.
