Brazil Anvisa approves Sumitomo/Ihara’s fungicide metominostrobin

Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has recommended the release of the systemic fungicide, metominostrobin, produced by the Japanese company Sumitomo Corporation. 

 

The agency approved the use of this active ingredient with foliar application on six crops, namely, cotton, kidney beans, corn, rice, soybeans and wheat, the Brazilian Association of Generic Pesticides has informed.

 

Metominostrobin’s approval was considered at a public consultation last month. 

 

In Brazil, Sumitomo Corporation has a contract with Ihara to jointly exploit the fungicide, which is used to control Asian rust.

 

Anvisa is one of the three agencies that approve agrochemicals in Brazil, after evaluating the impact of the active ingredient on human health and the environment. 

 

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply and the Brazilian Institute of Natural Environment and Renewable Natural Resources have yet to grant complete approval.
