Mapa authorizes use of Emamectin Benzoate insecticides in Brazilian state

The Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul was declared in state of “phytosanitary emergency” because of an outbreak of Helicoverpa armigera. The decision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply was published through the decree 266 at the Official Union Gazette on February 2^nd.

The decision authorizes the “implementation of the plan of suppression of plague and adoption of emergency measures”. In practice, this means a release of insecticides based on Emamectin Benzoate–which yet are not registered definitely in the country.

The substance is pointed out by several experts as the most effective active ingredients at the plague control, but suffers with resistance on the behalf of environmental activists and the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), which considers its toxicity beyond the tolerable limits.
