US grants Syngenta’s Divanem™ nematicide
Date:02-07-2017
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted registration to new Divanem™ nematicide from Syngenta. With the reliable active ingredient abamectin, Divanem delivers excellent turf quality through proven, broad-spectrum control of nematodes on golf course tees, greens and fairways and is safe for use on all turfgrass species. The enhanced formulation is designed to move quickly into the soil where nematodes are most active, while enhancing drought tolerance and quicker recovery from stress.
“We’re excited to bring a new innovation to the industry, but one that is founded upon a proven chemistry that superintendents have been relying on for several years,” said Stephanie Schwenke, turf market manager at Syngenta. “Divanem will be available as a labeled solution for superintendents across the country to help control nematodes and improve their turf quality.”
Divanem stays in the crucial layer of soil where nematodes are most active. There, it not only helps defend roots against nematode feeding but also helps enhance root quality and growth. In trials, Divanem has been shown to help improve root mass and quality drastically, allowing for stronger turf that can recover quicker from stress, like drought and aerification.
Additionally, Divanem allows flexible application rates and timing for season-long rotations to integrate into any agronomic program. When Divanem is used with Heritage Action™ fungicide, superintendents will experience enhanced turf quality, controlling nematodes, disease, and abiotic stresses.
“Using Divanem as part of a complete agronomic program will help superintendents manage not only the immediate threat – nematodes – but also strengthen the root system to protect against disease and drought, so turf maintains the highest quality and recovers quickly from stress,” explained Lane Tredway, field technical manager at Syngenta. “Using it as part of a well-built agronomic and resistance-management program will also help superintendents balance different modes of action to control disease and nematodes, without over-relying on one specific type of chemistry.”
Divanem will be available in a case with two half-gallon bottles and as part of a Multipak with one half-gallon of Divanem and five 1-pound bottles of Heritage Action. Divanem will be available for sale in early March 2017.
