Promip extends use of Macromip Max for biological control of split mite on tomato in Brazil
Date:12-22-2016
Pormip announced the launch of Macromip Max for the biological control of the split mite in tomatoes.
The solution acts as a biological agent for the predatory mites Phytoseiulus macropils (two spotted spider mite).
According to the manufacturer, what makes the Phytoseiulus macropils mite more efficient is its body structure, which allows it navigate rapidly in the tomato plant. Therefore, the biological agent finds and reaches the target in no time to eliminate it.
The split mite is a unique source of food for this predator and it consumes it in all its stages of development. According to the tests, the Phytoselius macropili can eat up to 40 eggs or nymphs per day without producing residue.
“Due to the excessive use of chemical acaricides, the split mite became resistant to several molecules, which made it harder to control the disease in tomatoes. In that sense, Macromip Max can revolutionize the sector and increase the yields of farmers,” affirmed the Promip CEO, Marcelo Poletti, to Cultivar magazine.
“For years, Macromip Max has been sold by Promip to the producers as a rapid and efficient way to control the split mite on the most diverse crops, as well as ornamental, extensive crops and vegetables. Now, the solution can be applied to tomatoes as well, which will revolutionize production for farmers, increasing their yield and ensuring more sustainable agriculture,” he said in conclusion.
