Date:12-15-2016
Recently, ICAMA of the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture announced the latest group of products to be registered, which covers 18 products applying for full registration, including the 4 active ingredients of Bayer CropScience, being terfuryltrione, triafamone, flurtamon and flufenacet, which will be registered in China for the first time.
Terfuryltrione
There are 2 products in this public notification involving terfuryltrione: terfuryltrione technical 97% and triafamone. terfuryltrione SC 27% (triafamone 9% + terfuryltrione 18%). The formulation product is registered for control of annual weeds in rice transplanting fields. This is going to be the first-time terfuryltrione has been registered in China.
Terfuryltrione is a benzoyl-cyclohexanedione herbicide developed jointly by Bayer CropScience, Hokko Chemical and Zennoh, being an HPPD inhibitor for the control of annual weed and perennial broadleaf weed in rice and cereal fields, which can be pre-emergence and post-emergence applied. Its active ingredient is very effective in the control of ALS herbicide resistant weeds.
In 2008, terfuryltrione was released to the Japanese market, followed by registration of the triafamone-mixed formulation Council Complete in 2014 in Korea. The global sales of terfuryltrione in 2013 was $25 million , but its compound average growth rate reached as high as 20.1%.
Flufenacet
There are 2 products in this public notification involving flufenacet: flufenacet technical 95% and flufenacet.diflufenican.flurtamon SC 33% (flufenacet 11% + diflufenican 11% + flurtamon 11%). The formulation product is registered for control of annual weeds in winter rice fields. This is going to be the first-time flufenacet has been registered in China.
Flufenacet is an amide herbicide developed by Bayer CropScience, being a systemic herbicide used in the pre-emergence and post-emergence early stage. It has apoplast transmission and distribution characteristics, as well as meristematic activity. Flufenacet is a broad-spectrum selective herbicide effective in the control of grassy weed and some broadleaf weeds. Flufenacet is very adaptive to mixtures.
Flufenacet was introduced to the market in 1998. Its global sales was $110 million in 2007 and 2009, reaching $140 million in 2011 and $205 million in 2014. Its compound average growth rate stayed at 19.3% from 2009 to 2014. The product patent EP0456826 expired on 13th June 2009 in Europe, and the US patent US4968342 expired on 14th June 2009.
Flurtamon
There are 2 products in the public notification involving flurtamon: flurtamon technical 98% and flufenacet.diflufenican.flurtamon SC 33% (flufenacet 11% + diflufenican 11% + flurtamon 11%). This is going to be the first-time registration of flurtamon in China.
Flurtamon is a carotenoid synthetic inhibitor, being pre-sowing mixed for pre-emergence and post-emergence control of broadleaf weeds and some grassy weeds, for protection of cereal, peanut, cotton, pea and sunflower.
Flurtamon was brought to the market in 1997. Its global sales in 2014 was below $10 million, while its compound average growth rate was -27.5% from 2009 to 2014.
Triafamone
There are two products in this public notification involving triafamone: triafamone technical 93.6% and triafamone SC 19%. The formulation product is registered for control of annual weed in rice fields. This is going to be the first-time registration of triafamone in China.
Triafamone is a novel sulfonamide herbicide developed by Bayer CropScience, being a patented product of Bayer CropScience. Triafamone is an ALS inhibitor used for control of rice field grassy weeds, nutgrass flatsedge and broadleaf weeds.
Triafamone was registered in 2014 in Korea, which was a first-time registration of the product in the world, using the trade name of Council Complete (triafamone + terfuryltrione) for application in rice fields. Since 2015, Bayer CropScience has begun to strengthen the promotion of triafamone in the prime rice growing countries of Asia. On 17th March of the same year, Bayer CropScience was granted a first-time registration of triafamone technical and formulation in China.
