The annual Colloquium of IDEA was recently held in Argentina. It is a meeting point that has been bringing together the most prominent leaders from relevant sectors of the national, international, public and private sectors, for more than 52 years, for the strategic management of major national issues of concern and interest to the business community.
Nidera is the only agroindustrial company that is present throughout the value chain and its authorities were present at the event. China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Corporation (COFCO), one of the world leaders in the food industry, acquired 100% of the shares of Nidera this year as part of its global growth plan.
Nidera currently employs more than 1,500 employees in Argentina and generates job opportunities and developments throughout the vast regions of the country.
The CEO of Nidera said that they are witnessing genuine investment in land by farmers in Argentina.
The development of areas planted with corn, wheat and sunflower was highlighted, but they believe there is a lack of investment in local infrastructure.
Nidera authorities see optimistic signs for the next year. The signs of recovery are seen in "the demand for inputs, seeds, fertilizers and products for crop protection, which grew from the previous year despite climatic difficulties. They also see very positive signs in the investment activity.
They believe there is a new scenario that stimulates the farmers to change their crops. Although the cultivation of corn, wheat and sunflower were increased, these were more modest crops in terms of the area and tradition of Argentina, compared to that of soybeans, which require more fertilizers.
They also mentioned infrastructure and technology as pending issues in the sector that could affect potential growth.
Belgrano Plan's investments in assets and public initiatives will also improve the road and rail facilities, which can benefit the transportation to grinding plants and ports.
The CEO of Nidera believes that the use of technology is also a factor under the Seed Law debate. Despite discussion and different perspectives, it is estimated that it would reach a reasonable agreement, as the main goal of the industry, government and farmers is not to compromise on the productivity of Argentina in the future.
