Robotics tested in agriculture
Date:10-18-2016
Every two years, Expoagro -the open field agricultural mega exhibition in the heart of the Argentinean “Humid pampas”- recognizes invention, originality and talent in agribusiness.
During its fifth expo, The Ternium Expoagro Prize for Agricultural Machinery Innovation promotes technology development linked to machinery of Argentinean origin, awarding the most outstanding innovations and industrial design to “Robotics”, a new category that was added to the ten existing categories.
The secretary of the Chamber of Computer Companies del Litoral -CEIL- explained that Argentina is at the forefront in this sector and Expoagro, which continuously displays innovations, offering visibility to this new category.
It was necessary for new developments to have a formal space and include “robotics” to be recognized, as other categories, such as planting, fertilizing, crop protection, harvesting, post harvest, multifunction, forage, tractors, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and agro-food production.
This new category is related to the knowledge economy, based particularly on general purpose technologies and the use of information and communication. The secretary of the Chamber explained that electronics and software can instruct the skewers to move alone, as an example, to show that the idea refers to the robotic tractor, which was recently presented at the Farm Progress Show in the United States.
Developments in robotics can be varied, but the central challenge is to find suitable applications that add value and competitiveness to the agro-industrial sector. The CEIL chamber- is based in Rosario - and gathers over 100 businessmen PyMES from all countries.
Today, there are fields that are thinking with the logic of robotics, which explains that all starts with a GPS, though behind it there is a set of technologies that enable a machine to perform tasks with precision and from add indications that are loaded into its software.
Until October 21, those having innovative new developments can register online at www.expoagro.com.ar/premio to participate for the fifth edition of the Ternium Expoagro prize.
