Third Seed Meets Technology event sees growth
Date:10-10-2016
The third edition of Seed meets Technology took place at the grounds of Proeftuin Zwaagdijk Sept. 27-30. With a bigger exhibition space, the introduction of the Vegetable Trials and an interesting program, the the number of attendees increased again.
Technology and Vegetable Trials
A total of 40 seed industry companies presented themselves at the third edition of Seed meets Technology. In Zwaagdijk, the Netherlands, visitors could see demonstrations in seed and coating technology, breeding support, sustainable crop protection, digital phenotyping, hydroponics, ERP software, logistics and robotics. A group of exhibiting seed companies showed their new varieties on the testing grounds of Proeftuin Zwaagdijk in the ‘Vegetable Trials’. The ‘Vegetable Trials’ introduced new field vegetables as well as new greenhouse crops.
Symposia
The symposia hydroponics and digital phenotyping, turned out to be successful again, just like last year. Both conferences had the maximum amount of visitors. It’s clear that these technologies will be implemented into practice and that they will generate much attention. The amount of visitors of the new symposium on using LED in breeding and propagation drew just as much visitors. Handouts of all presentations can be found on
www.seedmeetstechnology.com. Several companies organized meetings themselves in which visitors could participate. 30MHz gave a workshop on the use of wireless sensors in agricultural environments. Mprise Indigo, Bejo Zaden and Bayer Cropscience led a round table about the IT challenges in international seed production.
LED and Hydroponics
New this year was an additional hall focused on LED and Hydroponics. Companies such as Viscon, Dry Hydroponics, Botman Hydroponics, Nijssen, Certhon, Green Simplicity and Proeftuin Zwaagdijk demonstrated climate rooms for processing- and propagation material and hydroponics solutions. Viscon’s ViVi concept was especially inspiring.
Growth of Seed meets Technology
In its third year the event drew roughly 20% more visitors than last year. Half of these new visitors came from abroad. Seed meets Technology has a growing international reputation. As a result more and more foreign companies find their way to ‘Seed Valley’ in week 39. The organization committee is looking forward to cooperate with other local companies that have their open days in the same week. The fourth edition of Seed meets Technology will take place from September 26th until September 29th next year.
