Argentina: Syngenta presents technology to combine three seed treatments for sorghum
Date:09-26-2016
As the Chinese market opened its doors to Argentine sorghum last year, the crop is expected to be popular among producers in Argentina. Due to the demand, Syngenta announced the launch of a technology that combines three types of treatment for sorghum.
The first treatment is done with their Concept III product, an antidote that protects sorghum from the toxicity of graminicides (such as Dual Gold or Bicep Pack, a mixture of Gesaprim 90 and Dual Gold). It protects the plant against the residue of these herbicides used to control broadleaf weeds and grass.
It is followed by the application of Maxim XL, which contains two systemic fungicides combined for the control of seeds, soil, and storage. The sorghum is also treated with Cruiser 60bFS seed-bed, an especially effective insecticide against larvae that are hosted in the soil (Diloboderus abderus; Dyscinetus gagates; Cyclocephala spp.).
The newly treated sorghum has not shown a significant increase in the cost per hectare. On the issue, agronomist Victor Tobin, director of Tobin Semillas, an expert on sorghum, added: “In order to achieve the quality needed for export, it is key to obtain clean sorghum that follows the import protocol requirements of China. It is fundamental to start with a clean crop and to treat the seed at its origin.”
Carlos Becco, head of the business of multipliers and seed treatment at Syngenta, stated, “Sorghum is a regional crop, but at Syngenta, we will continue to work on providing solutions and helping to expand the crop. We know that sorghum is a crop with great potential, and if we apply technology, it responds with great yields.”
