Date:09-13-2016
Ukraine’s exportable grain surplus could total 39.8 million tonnes in the 2016/17 July-June season, up 400,000 tonnes from the previous season, the agriculture minister said.
Taras Kutovy told a government meeting that a good harvest was the reason for the higher export outlook.
Ukraine plans to harvest 62-63 million tonnes in 2016, up from 60 million, according to the ministry’s forecast.
The world’s third largest grain exporter, Ukraine had harvested 38.6 million tonnes of grain from 69 percent of the planted area as of Sept. 7.
The yield averaged 3.9 tonne per hectares compared with 3.59 tonne a year earlier.
Local traders’ union UZA said last month the country of 43 million people could export around 41 million tonnes of grain this season. The ministry has forecast that wheat exports could total 17 million tonnes.
